It goes without saying that the pre-amplifier is a very important part of any high-quality music reproduction system. With trends moving towards digital to analogue converters with volume controls, people with only digital sources have in some cases decided to bypass the preamp completely and run directly from DAC to power amp. Whilst this can lead to some very good results it doesn’t quite have the same impact as a quality preamplifier taking care of that first and most critical stage of amplification.
