Tellurium Q’s design approach focuses of elimination of phase distortion which can result in audible timing errors.
Phase distortion is also a special effect which has been deliberately created by designers of synthesisers where timing errors are deliberately introduced in order to modulate a sine wave to produce a differing waveform at the output. This is fantastic as a special effect however its clearly not what we want a cable to do in our hi-fi system. Its much better to add effects in the recording studio rather than having the audio playback system impose them on us.
The human hearing ability to respond to timing changes is very precise. Our ability to perceive very small timing differences has been highlighted in a recent study which once again demonstrates how awesome the human ear brain system is. This study performed listening tests on real people where both frequency and time were varied by increasingly smaller increments in order determine thresholds. The score with the top timing acuity (3 milliseconds) was achieved by an electronic musician who works in precision sound editing.
